Definition of Obsession for my last writing for English =(
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
My world started to crumble as I grew obsessed with video games that would trap my soul for eternity. Even the slightest thought of gaming compounded my desire. I did not stop as I was drowning myself with it in a bottomless pit. This obsession controls my mind as it feeds my mind with this compulsive preoccupation with playing video games. The endless desire to feed this addiction has rotted my mind, and my sanity has begun to wither. Without stopping this manipulative obsession, it slowly devours my mind over time. I reflect back from when I started playing video games to the present day and what this obsession has done to me. My obsession led to my downfall as it did not just affect my psyche but my health. An obsession is a persistent, disturbing preoccupation of the mind with an often unreasonable idea or feeling.
Obsession can not only consume time but also negatively affect other aspects of life. This fascination for hardcore gaming has deeply affected my life and the world around me. I would rush home to get on my computer and play my current addiction. Then I would bring up food and drinks to eat while I played. When I would finish, they would end up on the floor. This would leave my room a mess, along with my life. My social life would go down to zero because I would never leave my house or answer phone calls. The body that I once had was reduced to rubble as I was no longer fit. I had a problem dealing with my anger as I would yell back at people, such as my family. My obsession for gaming gave me so many side effects that, in some cases, I would end up depressed. However, I felt like I must continue to play video games, and I sometimes thought I would die without them. If I dared to escape from this mind sucking leech, I know it will always be there to haunt me. There was no stop to this madness because I was preoccupied with this fantasy world, a world of obsession.
It all started with an introduction to a video game called, World of Warcraft. Everyone knows that once people get into it, they never come back to the human world alive. In this video game, I played in this fictional world, Azeroth, as I ventured out and quested for level ups and gold. It slowly started to draw me in. I thought it would never do such a thing. I have played many games but none as addictive as World of Warcraft. My hypothesis, that I would never be addicted to a game, backfired on me. After doing over a thousand quests, I sought more as it started to take over my life. This was when I truly found out what it meant to be obsessed: I continued to have this irresistible craving. If this hunger for video games vanished before my eyes, I would face a myriad number of withdrawal symptoms. I could not live without it. In the real world, I had problems that I could not face, such as bullying. I used this game as a way to escape from my everyday problems. My social life was at the brink of destruction as I found new friends online. I thought that everything I needed was right in front of my monitor. I needed nothing else, as my world was stuck in a game.
Even with joy floating about, there will always be consequences for unreasonable actions. Playing video games has deeply affected my life; I cannot stop thinking about it. Everything I do or say is about games, games, and games. This shift to live life like a video game grew harsh on me. It did not just affect my state of mind, but also my physical fitness. All I thought about was playing games. I did not care for food as I was never hungry. I did not care for real life friends as my friends online were better. I did not care for my health as all I cared about was playing games. As my mind was filled with this obsession, this unreasonable desire, I found out that my body was deteriorating. I started to become overweight as my kidneys were failing from eating unhealthy food. My emotions started to tackle me whenever a game was not in front of my eyes. I had a lot of sleeping problems because I would sleep after forty eight hours of solid gaming. There was no possible way to rid myself of this obsession; persuasion or therapy did not help me. I craved more and more but as time passed, I would wither away with the only thought: video games.
A definition of obsession is a fixation of the mind with an irrational emotion or thought. I was fixated with World of Warcraft, spending countless hours leveling up and questing. My desire to play games made me who I am today and I am unable to change it. I simply cannot live in a world without it. As I continue to play, my mind will be consumed with this never ending thought. Even when I was away from the computer, I kept thinking about it. Lingo and slang infiltrated the deep, dark, putrid core of my mind as I kept playing. If there were no gnomes and trolls running in front of my eyes, I did not want to live in this world. I irrationally feared that quitting my obsession would result in debilitating withdrawal symptoms that would lead to my demise.
Obsession takes many shapes and many forms, like David Bowie throughout the decades.
